Workpiece carriers as part of production systems usually use special pneumatic cylinders to stop the forward movement. Stopping solenoids represent a practical alternative for such applications. In many cases, pneumatic systems are not the preferred solution - for example if the surface of the workpiece is sensitive to dust or traces of oil mist or a process needs to operate inside a vacuum chamber or within an atmosphere of protective gas. In addition, mounting a stopping solenoid and connecting it to an electric power supply is usually easier than mounting a cylinder with all the related compressed air hoses. Depending on the specific requirements, the pestles can be adapted to the existing axial forces.

Mechanical design and production of KUHNKE solenoids can be tailored individually to match specific requirements in many ways. In the example shown, the pestle features an inner thread to allow mounting a dampening cap.

Automatic SMD putting machines require fast solenoid actuators and high repeatability. In the example shown, a 8-way solenoid row takes care of the supply and exact positioning of components. The integrated electronics allow compact dimensions and genuine plug-and-play operation. Central plugs allow fast and easy connection. With up to 10 million switching cycles, the unit offers a high life span. One switching cycle requires less than 8 ms, which meets even high expectations concerning the switching speed.

For this application, H22 linear solenoids take care of the safe distribution of individual banknotes in a money changing machine. Precisely one banknote is taken from the storage compartment by means of a conveyor belt. The quick reaction of the solenoid is an special advantage in this application. It is activated immediately, as soon as the required operating voltage is applied and falls back into its default position as soon as the voltage is switched off. Especially designed dampening units guarantee fast and quiet movements during the process of money distribution.

Inside the hot channel nozzle of a plastic injection molding machine, usually a hydraulically operated pin is used to open and close a nozzle located directly inside the tool. Due to its easy connection and oil-free operation, solenoid actuators are an attractive choice for such an application. A bi-directional solenoid especially developed for this application provides high opening forces and is able to keep the needle securely closed despite the high pressure of the hot plastic material. Integrated permanent magnets prevent additional heat dissipation during operation, allowing the solenoid to provide best-possible performance at operating temperatures of up to 80°C.
